Beautiful opalescent heart - Ammolite heart

An Ammolite heart from Alberta, Canada, with powerful iridescence in the color palette typical for the species.

Ammolite consists of the iridescent aragonite shell of prehistoric ammonites. In the Upper Cretaceous Bearpaw Shale, the shell was transformed into its current opalescent form around 65 million years ago under pressure and mineralization.

The heart shape is created by selective cutting from a larger shell fragment. The fine black veins on the surface are authentic remnants of the original shale breccia and attest to the authenticity of the Ammolite.

Sealed with a resin layer for stabilization, without which the thin aragonite film would delaminate.

A collector's item, suitable as a gift or accent piece.
