An Ammolite heart from Alberta, Canada, in vibrant iridescence with dominant green and blue tones.
Ammolite consists of the iridescent aragonite shell of prehistoric ammonites. In the Upper Cretaceous Bearpaw Shale, the shell was transformed into its current opalescent form around 65 million years ago under pressure and mineralization.
The heart shape is created by selective cutting from a larger shell fragment. A heart silhouette with consistently vibrant iridescence requires skillful pre-selection of the raw material.
The fine black veins of Bearpaw Shale remnants are not a defect but the authentic hallmark of every Ammolite shell. Collectors explicitly seek them out.
Sealed with a synthetic resin layer for stabilization, without which the thin aragonite film would delaminate.
A collector's item, suitable as a gift or as an accent in a collector's display case.
Sensitive, protect from impact, acid and prolonged UV radiation. Sealed with synthetic resin, dry clean, no ultrasound.
