An ammonite from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, cut and polished along the spiral axis. The polished cut surface reveals the internal septal structure of the ammonite shell.
Ammonites are extinct cephalopods from the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras, approximately 400 to 66 million years ago. The Moroccan Atlas deposits yield premium material from the Devonian and Jurassic periods with characteristic spiral shell geometry.
On the cut surface, the growth chambers become visible in a spiral arrangement. Each chamber is separated by a wavy septum (lobe). The suture geometry is readable as a paleontological identification feature.
Moroccan ammonite deposits are among the classic collector provenances. A collector's item with documented Atlas provenance and premium paleontological preservation.
