An ammonite from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The polished cross-section reveals the internal septal structure: growth chambers arranged spirally with wavy dividing walls, known as lobes.
Ammonites are extinct cephalopods from the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras, dating back approximately 400 to 66 million years. They disappeared at the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary along with the dinosaurs and are classic index fossils.
The Moroccan Atlas deposits provide premium material with characteristic spiral shell geometry. The high quality of preservation allows for complete readability of the growth chambers.
The pronounced slab dimension is suitable for wall or table display. Moroccan ammonites have been among the documented premium collector provenances since the 19th century.
A Moroccan collector's item with documented Atlas provenance and premium paleontological preservation.
