An iridescent colorful Ammolite Ammonite from Alberta, Canada. Full shell preservation with red, green, blue, and gold iridescence.
Ammolite is the rare iridescent variety of ammonite shells from the Bearpaw Formation in Alberta. The original aragonite shell (CaCO₃) of the Cretaceous ammonites was transformed into an iridescent layer around 70 million years ago by pressure and temperature.
The iridescent colors are created by the diffraction of light on microscopic layer structures. It is the same effect as with precious opal. Ammolite is recognized as an official gemstone by the International Gemological Association.
The Bearpaw deposits are the world's only commercial source of Ammolite. Gallery-grade dimensions on the full shell surface.
A museum-quality Canadian collectible with documented Bearpaw Cretaceous provenance, full color iridescence, and exceptional preservation.
Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth. Protect from hard knocks and direct sunlight.
