An opalescent Ammolite Ammonite from Alberta, Canada. Full iridescent color palette from red to green and blue to gold.
Ammolite is the rare opalescent variety of ammonite shells from the Bearpaw Formation in Alberta. The original aragonite shell of Cretaceous ammonites (approximately 70 million years ago) was transformed into an iridescent layer by geological pressure and temperature conditions.
The opalescent colors are created by light diffraction on microscopic layer structures. Ammolite is recognized as an official gemstone and belongs to the premium gemological league.
The Bearpaw deposits are the world's only commercial source of Ammolite. Gallery dimension over the full shell surface.
A Canadian museum-worthy collector's item with documented Bearpaw Cretaceous provenance and full color iridescence.
Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth. Protect from hard impacts and sunlight.
