Fluorite (CaF₂) is a cubic crystallizing halide with perfect cleavage in four directions. Its optical dispersion causes light to break up into spectral colors, an effect that is particularly pronounced in clear pieces.

Chinese deposits supply fluorite in a variety of color grades. The heart shape is polished on both sides and fully utilizes the optical depth of the material.
