Beautiful Fluorite Sphere from China

Fluorite (CaF₂, Mohs 4) belongs to the halides and crystallizes cubically. The violet color is caused by radiation defects in the crystal lattice and is one of the most common, but also most collectible, fluorite varieties.

On a light base, the sphere unfolds its full effect and casts colorful reflections on the wall and ceiling. The spheres are made from raw material that is already weathered on the surface, so that no beautiful crystal tips have to be destroyed.
