beautiful labradorite from Madagascar

A hand-cut labradorite solitaire from Madagascar, in a compact size, with blue and golden iridescence on both the front and back of the piece.

Labradorite ((Ca,Na)(Al,Si)₄O₈) belongs to the plagioclase feldspar series. The iridescence (labradorescence) is caused by interference at exsolution lamellae, an optical phenomenon without pigmentary coloration.

The color is natural; nothing is coated. The stone was cut from a single piece and polished all around, so the back also shows the full effect.

For decades, Madagascar has supplied the world's best quality labradorite, with particularly intense blue and gold reflections compared to other provenances.
