beautiful Labradorite from Madagascar

A Labradorite from Madagascar, hand-cut from a single piece. The stone shows a blue-gold shimmer on the polished display side and also on the back. The color is completely natural; nothing has been dyed or varnished.

This optical effect is called labradorescence and is caused by closely spaced lamellar layers in the plagioclase feldspar. Incoming light is refracted within these lamellae, resulting in the iridescent play of colors.

Polishing on both sides makes the piece freely rotatable and attractive in any position. Madagascar provides the highest quality labradorite material worldwide, especially from the deposits in the Toamasina region.
