Golden, very clear citrine crystal, single point in great color with many large rainbows

A clear citrine crystal as a single point from Zambia, in a deep golden-yellow color. Numerous rainbow reflections become visible in transmitted light, caused by internal growth lamellae.

Citrine is the yellow variety of quartz, colored by traces of trivalent iron. The refraction of light at internal microcavities creates the rainbow effects known as iris quartz. A gemological phenomenon that only occurs in naturally grown citrine, not in heat-treated amethysts.

Zambian citrine deposits around Kalomo are considered a premium source for naturally grown gemstone-quality material. The clarity of the single point and the depth of the golden-yellow coloration are deposit markers for the Kalomo pegmatite constellation.

Single points with pyramidal terminations crystallized on both sides are rare. Typically, citrine columns grow with one end attached to the cavity wall. A freely grown point indicates undisturbed cavity genesis.
