Golden Citrine Twin Crystal with Smoky Quartz and many rainbow-colored inclusions

A twin citrine crystal from Zambia, combined with a smoky quartz component and numerous rainbow inclusions. Three quartz varieties and an optical phenomenon in one piece.

Citrine and smoky quartz are both quartz varieties and differ only in their trace element configuration. Citrine contains traces of iron as the coloring element, while smoky quartz contains traces of aluminum plus natural radiation exposure. In Zambian deposits, both regularly grow together.

The rainbow-colored inclusions are caused by light refraction at fine microcavities and growth discontinuities. The phenomenon, known as iris quartz, only occurs in naturally grown material, providing proof of authenticity compared to heat-treated amethysts.

Twin aggregates document specific growth conditions during the pegmatitic cavity phase. Zambian material from Kalomo is considered a premium source for naturally grown citrine.
