Chevron Amethyst Point with great marbling

A polished chevron amethyst point from Namibia, whose violet-white striped grain follows the characteristic V-shaped growth patterns. The layers document rhythmic growth phases from alternating amethyst and rock crystal solutions.

Chevron amethyst, also known as dream amethyst or banded amethyst, forms in pegmatitic cavities with oscillating solution chemistry. The trace element composition changes sequentially, creating the alternating purple and white bands. Geologically, it is a multi-hundred-generation lamination on a micrometer scale.

Namibia provides premium quality chevron amethyst with particularly high-contrast banding. The deposits in the Erongo region have been known for decades as a collector's source for this specialty.

The point is cut from the rough material so that the stripe structure runs along the column axis. When rotated under light, moving reflection lines are created, a gemologically prized effect.
