A blue stalactite made of aragonite, calcite, and hemimorphite from China. The intense blue coloration comes from zinc-containing hemimorphite, embedded in a carbonate matrix.
Stalactites form in karst caves through dripwater mineralization over very long periods. The three-mineral constellation documents changing solution chemistry. Aragonite and calcite are both forms of calcium carbonate; hemimorphite is a zinc silicate and grew in its own phase.
Such zinc-containing stalactite constellations are a deposit-related rarity. Chinese karst caves provide the best material worldwide for this combination.
The architectural gallery dimension of this stalactite demands its own presentation. Three-mineral genesis, premium blue coloration, and block size come together here in a museum-quality, top-tier constellation.
