Beautiful clear smoky quartz triplet crystal

A smoky quartz triplet crystal consisting of three parallel-grown main axes, each with its own clear termination and consistent smoky quartz coloration.

Inside the three tips, striking rutilated quartz inclusions are visible: fine, whitish-silvery fibrous structures that permeate the volume like frozen cotton. These are presumably sericite or asbestos-like minerals that were already present in the deposit before the quartz growth and were enclosed by the later quartz.

Smoky quartz belongs to the quartz family. The coloration is caused by natural radiation from the surrounding pegmatite, which converts aluminum trace elements in the crystal lattice into color centers.

The triplet formation is a rare growth habit: three crystal axes originating from a common root point, striving upwards in parallel or at a slight acute angle.

The combination of triplet growth and continuous fibrous inclusions is a double rarity among collectors.
