A large smoky quartz triple twin from Minas Gerais, Brazil, with an attached muscovite "flower." Three twinned quartz columns plus leafy mica companionship, a rare pegmatitic constellation.

Smoky quartz is a variety of quartz, colored by trace aluminum and natural radiation exposure from radioactively enriched host rocks. Triple twins form when three crystals grow together in a twinned fashion according to crystallographic laws. Very rare in quartz, which prefers the single column form.

The muscovite "flower" is a late pegmatitic phase: leafy potassium-aluminum mica that crystallized in rose-shaped aggregates. The combination of smoky quartz + muscovite is diagnostic for the Brazilian pegmatites of Minas Gerais.
