Malachite is a secondary copper carbonate. It forms in the upper weathering zones of copper-bearing ore deposits when copper-containing solutions react with carbonic acid-rich groundwater.

A sphere is the most challenging cut for malachite. Any asymmetry in the banding or a break in the concentric structure becomes immediately visible. This sphere shows the eye patterns consistently over the entire surface.

Today's main deposits are in the Congo (Katanga) and Zambia. Material of this quality belongs to the best quality class.
