A specimen with blue aquamarine crystals from the Himalayas, embedded in a matrix of shimmering silver muscovite mica and fine albite rosettes. The main crystals are prismatic and clear with a depth of blueness that can only arise in pegmatitic cavities.
Aquamarine belongs to the beryl family, the same mineral group as emerald. The light blue color comes from traces of divalent iron in the crystal lattice. The hexagonal columnar growth with the characteristic longitudinal striations is clearly visible on the crystals.
What makes this specimen special is the combination of three generations. First, the albite plagioclase crystallized in its rosette-shaped habit, then the coarse-bladed muscovite, and finally the aquamarines in the remaining cavities. Pegmatitic genesis in textbook format, documented directly on the piece.
Himalayan aquamarines from the pegmatite veins of Pakistan and Nepal are considered reference quality for fine blueness. Recovery takes place at thousands of meters above sea level under difficult conditions. This explains the collector's value of such specimens with preserved matrix.
A collector's item with pegmatitic narrative power, showing mineralogy as visible deposit history.
