Amethyst Crystal - Single Point /Ametrine

An ametrine crystal from Bolivia, a rare two-color quartz variety from the world's only commercial deposit. Violet amethyst and yellow citrine are found in one crystal, separated by a sharp geometric boundary line.

Ametrine (also called Bolivianite) is a natural two-zone quartz with violet amethyst and yellow citrine components in the same crystal. The two zones are separated by a sharp geometric boundary line, a geologically exceptional constellation.

The only deposit is the Anahí Mine in the department of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. It is located on the border with Brazil in the Pantanal wetlands. According to legend, Anahí, an indigenous chief's daughter, brought the mine as a dowry into a union with a Spanish conquistador in the 17th century.

The geological cause of the two-color constellation lies in specific temperature and pressure conditions during crystal growth. One part grew under conditions for citrine coloration, another part under those for amethyst coloration.
