An ametrine single termination from Bolivia. Purple amethyst and yellow citrine share a single crystal, separated by a sharp geometric boundary line.
The two-zone constellation formed 250 to 280 million years ago in the Permian period. The specific temperature and pressure conditions during mineralization favored citrine coloration only in a narrow range.
Ametrine is a geologically unique variety of quartz. The only commercially viable deposit worldwide is the Anahí Mine in the Pantanal wetlands, Bolivia.
According to historical tradition, the Anahí Mine was discovered by Spanish conquistadors in the 17th century. The specific conditions of this deposit continue to produce the two-color constellation to this day.
A Bolivian ametrine specimen with documented Anahí provenance and a clean two-color boundary.
Protect from direct sunlight, may fade over time. Dry clean with a soft cloth.
