Amethyst Crystal - Single Terminated /Ametrine

An Ametrine crystal from Bolivia with classic three-axis proportions. The polished facet reveals the sharp dividing line between the violet amethyst sector and the golden-yellow citrine sector, without a transition zone.

Ametrine (also called 'Bolivianite') is a natural two-zone quartz with violet amethyst and yellow citrine within the same crystal. The two zones are separated by a sharp geometric dividing line, a geologically exceptional constellation.

The only commercially viable ametrine deposit in the world is the Anahí mine in the Department of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, located on the border with Brazil in the Pantanal wetlands. According to legend, the mine was discovered in the 17th century by a Spanish conquistador princess named Anahí.

The geological cause of the two-color constellation is a specific temperature and pressure condition during quartz growth. One part of the crystal grew under conditions that led to citrine coloration, another part under conditions for amethyst coloration. The genesis is mineralogically exceptional.
