An ametrine crystal from Bolivia in a slender, columnar geometry. A rare two-color quartz variety from the only commercial deposit worldwide.
Ametrine (also called Bolivianite) is a natural two-zone quartz. Purple amethyst and yellow citrine components are present in a single crystal, separated by a sharp geometric boundary line.
The only commercially viable ametrine deposit worldwide is the Anahí mine in the Department of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. It is located on the border with Brazil in the Pantanal wetlands.
The geological cause of the two-color constellation is a specific temperature-pressure condition during quartz growth. One part of the crystal grew under citrine conditions, another part under amethyst conditions.
Protect from direct sunlight, may fade over time. Dry clean with a soft cloth.
