Ametrine is a geologically unique quartz variety. Violet amethyst and yellow citrine lie in a single crystal, separated by a sharp geometric boundary line.

The only commercially viable deposit worldwide is the Anahí mine in the Pantanal wetlands, Bolivia. According to tradition, it was discovered by Spanish conquistadors in the 17th century.

In collector tradition, ametrine is considered a symbol for the union of opposing energies. Amethyst and citrine are classically assigned to different chakras and are in direct proximity in this one crystal.
