Amethyst Crystal - Single Terminated / Ametrine

An ametrine crystal from Bolivia in a distinctly voluminous composition. A rare two-color quartz variety from the world's only commercial deposit.

Ametrine (also called Bolivianite) is a natural two-zone quartz with a violet amethyst component and a yellow citrine component in the same crystal. The two zones are separated by a sharp geometric boundary line.

The only commercially viable ametrine deposit in the world is the Anahí mine in the Department of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. It is located on the border with Brazil in the Pantanal wetlands. According to legend, it was discovered in the 17th century by a Conquistador princess named Anahí.

The two-color constellation is created by specific temperature and pressure conditions during quartz growth. One part of the crystal grew under citrine conditions, another part under amethyst conditions.
