A fossilized sea lily from Holzmaden in oil shale. A paleontological wall plaque with a complete crinoid skeleton, stem, and crown in a single sedimentary slab.
Sea lilies (Crinoidea) are echinoderms with a flower-shaped crown of arms that filter plankton from seawater. The Holzmaden Lagerstätte (Posidonia Shale, Black Jurassic) preserves sea lilies from the Lower Jurassic, about 180 million years ago, in premium quality.
The oil shale is a fine-grained, organically rich sedimentary layer. It documents anaerobic conditions on the seabed, which allowed for the complete preservation of the skeletons.
Holzmaden sea lilies belong to the paleontological top class worldwide. The architectural wall staging dimension makes the piece a gallery plaque with a stage character.
A museum-quality German collector's item with documented Holzmaden Posidonia Shale provenance and top gallery dimensions.
