Turquoise is a phosphate mineral with the formula CuAl₆(PO₄)₄(OH)₈·4H₂O. The characteristic coloring is caused by copper inclusions. Turquoise has been considered a sacred stone in many cultures since antiquity, from the ancient Egyptians to the North American Pueblo peoples.
