A monumental polished sodalite object from Brazil, in a deep blue color with fine white calcite veins. Its 130 cm height makes the piece an architectural sculpture.
Sodalite is a blue tectosilicate mineral from the feldspathoid group. The intense blue color comes from sulfur anion groups in the aluminosilicate lattice, a phenomenon related to lazurite in lapis lazuli but chemically distinct.
Sodalite is often confused with lapis lazuli, but it is distinct: sodalite typically shows white calcite veins instead of the golden pyrite flecks of lapis. Brazilian material is considered a premium source for pure sodalite in monolithic sizes.
The polishing is workshop craftsmanship. The organic sculptural form was carved from the raw block and polished to a high sheen, revealing the fine marbling.
A collector's item with museum dimensions and premium mineralogical substance.
