Two kingfishers made of sodalite and calcite on a clear rock crystal point from Brazil. The double-bird composition stands on a quartz column, which, like a tall water-rock, reflects the kingfisher's habitus.

Sodalite from Brazilian Bahia deposits provides the deep bird blue with the characteristic white calcite veins. The calcite accents on the beak and breast introduce white contrasting surfaces that approximate the natural kingfisher breast coloration.

The single rock crystal point as a base is a columnar vertical form, unlike the cluster groups of other pieces. This vertical staging suits the powerful, slender line of the two bird bodies.
