Great hummingbird pair on a stunning watermelon tourmaline

Watermelon tourmaline is a zoned form of tourmaline. Its green outer rind and red core are reminiscent of a cut watermelon. This configuration arises from fluctuating concentrations of lithium and manganese during its growth.

Brazilian pegmatite deposits in Minas Gerais supply the highest quality watermelon tourmaline material worldwide. Such zoned, facet-grade pieces belong to their own premium gemological class.
