A tektite from Thailand. Dark black impact glass with characteristic aerodynamic shape variation from the solidification flight after the meteorite impact.

Tektites are natural glasses formed during large meteorite impacts. Terrestrial rock is melted by the impact heat and ejected into the atmosphere. Upon re-entry, the material solidifies as glass droplets.

The Thai tektites (Indochinites) originate from the Australasian strewn field. This was an impact event approximately 700,000 years ago that affected large parts of Southeast Asia and Australia.

Tektites are classified in the collector's market as meteorite-related material. They are cosmological documents that combine both terrestrial and cosmic origins.
