A tektite from Thailand, a natural impact glass with an aerodynamically shaped surface. The black, glassy material shows characteristic flight sculptures from its solidification flight.
Tektites are natural glasses formed by large meteorite impacts. Terrestrial rock is melted by the impact heat and ejected into the atmosphere, where it solidifies as glass droplets.
The Thai tektites (Indochinites) originate from the Australasian strewn field, an impact event approximately 700,000 years old. The aerodynamic shape variations document the solidification flight of the molten droplets through the atmosphere.
Tektites are classified as meteorite-related material in the collector's market. They combine terrestrial origin (the molten rock) with cosmic trigger (the meteorite impact). A Thai collector's item with documented Australasian strewn field provenance.
Wipe dry with a soft cloth. Protect from hard impacts.
