A very clear rock crystal sphere from Madagascar, with fine shimmering internal inclusions that become visible as wandering reflective points when the light changes. A 30 cm sphere with gemmological depth.

Rock crystal is the purest quartz variety (SiO₂). The shimmering inclusions can have various origins: micro-cavities with fluid inclusions, growth discontinuities, or fine accompanying mineral particles that were incorporated during crystallization. Each variant has its own refractive characteristics.

In this sphere, the reflective points wander when rotated under light, a dynamic phenomenon classified in the collector's trade as internal scintillation. Larger inclusion structures enable this optical effect.

Madagascar supplies quartz of outstanding clarity from the pegmatite deposits in the Vakinankaratra region. The combination of clarity with defined internal inclusions is relevant to collectors: without clarity, the inclusions would not be visible; without inclusions, the sphere would be optically empty.
