Exceptional rock crystal sphere with an enclosed amethyst crystal

An extraordinary rock crystal sphere from Madagascar, within which a completely enclosed amethyst crystal is visible. A rare inclusion of two quartz varieties in one piece.

Rock crystal and amethyst are both quartz varieties and differ only in their trace elements: Amethyst contains iron plus radiation exposure, while rock crystal is the uncolored, pure quartz form. An inclusion of both in one aggregate is a deposit sensation.

The sequence of crystallization is readable on the stone: The amethyst first crystallized in the original cavity solution. Only when the solution chemistry flushed out the iron component did the surrounding rock crystal crystallize around the amethyst core and completely enclose it.

Madagascar provides such inclusion stages from the pegmatite deposits of the Vakinankaratra region. Grinding the 25 cm sphere from such a raw block requires precise workshop work so that the amethyst core remains in the center.
