Rock crystal sphere with included black tourmaline crystals and a movable water bubble

A polished rock crystal sphere from Madagascar with two collector-relevant features: embedded black tourmaline crystals and a movable water bubble in a fluid inclusion.

The water bubble is a fluid inclusion from the growth phase of the quartz: during crystallization, solution with embedded water molecules was enclosed. The bubble moves visibly when the sphere is tilted, a didactically and gemmologically valuable phenomenon that is rare in rock crystal with this clarity.

The black tourmaline needles (schorl) are the second mineral generation: acicular growth within the quartz during simultaneous crystallization phases. The black-clear contrast aesthetic makes such pieces collector favorites.

Madagascar provides quartz of outstanding clarity, especially from pegmatite deposits in the Vakinankaratra region. A sphere with both a water inclusion AND tourmaline needles is a rare constellation at collector level.
