Very dark Uruguayan amethyst geode with an outwardly curved, wave-like section

An exceptional Uruguayan amethyst geode with a wavy top edge. The outward-curving wave makes this piece a sculptural solitaire.

Such wave contours form when the basalt host rock fractured unevenly before crystallization. The amethyst crystals were then forced to align themselves along this wavy surface. The result is a geode that resembles frozen surf.

The color is deep violet, with the classic Uruguayan characteristics: high iron oxide content, many different crystal sizes side-by-side, a luster like deep wine in the light. A top piece for collectors or as a statement object in rooms.

Wave geodes are rare because they cannot be reproduced. Each geode is a unique piece of Earth's history that could only be recovered in this form.
