Very beautiful, deep Uruguay amethyst geode with great color and dark crystals

A deep Uruguayan amethyst geode with strong color and dark premium crystals. The opened geode reveals a densely packed crystal wall of deep violet points growing inwards, making the natural geode volume geometrically discernible.

Uruguayan amethyst crystallizes in volcanic geodes of the Arapey Basalt Formation and is considered the darkest amethyst variety worldwide. The intense color is caused by iron substitutions in the quartz lattice; deeply dark pieces document high iron concentrations in the solution.

The pronounced depth of the geode cavity, together with the upright gallery height, documents an exceptionally large original geode with a high volume ratio. Such geometries are a deposit-related rarity in Uruguayan material.

The processing follows the conservative Uruguayan workshop tradition: careful opening of the geode along the natural fracture axis, minimal polishing of the outer mantle, highlighted interior space as a display surface.
