A monumental chrysanthemum stone from Guilin, China, 160 cm in length, a collector's item of museum-like dimensions. White radial crystal aggregates on a dark carbonate matrix form growth geometries that fan out like chrysanthemum blossoms.
Chrysanthemum stones are formed by diagenetic mineralization processes in sedimentary voids. Specific solution conditions lead to the formation of radially radiated crystal aggregates from central growth nuclei, which appear like flowers when viewed from above. The mineral composition varies: often celestine, aragonite, or andalusite varieties.
The dark matrix is organically colored limestone from the sedimentary basins of South China. The strong light-dark contrasts make the piece a visual teaching object: each flower documents its own micro-solution island within the sediment volume.
Pieces of this size (160 cm × 82 cm) are remarkable because the flower constellation is preserved in a contiguous block. Recovery and transport require complex logistics from the South Chinese karst caves.
A collector's item of museum-like dimensions and crystallographic educational value in a contiguous block.
Avoid acid. Dry clean.
