Chrysanthemum Stone from Guilin

A Chrysanthemum Stone from the classic deposits in Guilin, Southern China. On the polished cut surface, light radial-radiating mineral aggregates appear like blossoming chrysanthemum flowers against a dark limestone background.

The material is a limestone with embedded celestine or andalusite concretions. They formed around 250 million years ago in shallow marine sediments during the Permian period under specific pressure and temperature conditions.

The deposits in Guilin (Guangxi Province) and Liuyang (Hunan) yield the highest quality material worldwide. In Chinese tradition, the stone is considered one of the four classic collector's stones and has adorned scholars' studies since the Ming dynasty.
