Aragonite Lamp

An aragonite lamp from Mexico, made from untreated natural stone slabs and a unique piece by a Mexican artist. Calcite and aragonite slabs are precisely fitted together.

Aragonite (CaCO₃) is an orthorhombic carbonate modification, closely related to calcite. The warm, honey-colored parts come from traces of iron in the carbonate matrix and develop a translucent depth in the light of the lamp.

The Mexican deposits supply the material in various banding stages. Each slab shows its own growth lines from the original sediment stack.
