Beautiful heart-shaped rock crystal geode

A rock crystal geode in heart shape from Brazil. The inner quartz points of this specimen are unusually clear and uniform, a result of material selection based on the deposit.

The clarity of quartz in geodes is a function of solution conditions during growth. Phases with slow, undisturbed crystallization produce clear, large crystals; turbulent phases with rapid growth produce cloudier, smaller points.

This specimen documents a particularly calm geode growth history. The clarity of the inner points allows for dramatic lighting effects when backlit, as light penetrates the quartz matrix and reflects off the edges of the points.

The heart-shaped exterior cut follows traditional Brazilian workshop sculpting.
