An opalescent Ammolite heart from Canada, Alberta. The jewelry shape follows the iconic heart tradition with special iridescence visibility over the entire cut surface.
The Bearpaw Formation, where Ammolite is found, is a 65-75 million-year-old marine sedimentary layer. The sediment documents the end of the Cretaceous Period and the beginning of the Tertiary Period, a geologically and paleontologically highly interesting transitional time.
The KT boundary (Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary), which marks the extinction of ammonites and dinosaurs, lies only a few meters above the Bearpaw deposits. Ammolite is thus the material directly preceding this mass extinction event.
Heart-shaped carving is a classic jewelry tradition.
A Canadian collector's item with KT boundary provenance and paleontologically documented Bearpaw stratigraphy.
