Rock Crystal Skull with Hairstyle

A crystal skull made from a single piece of rock crystal, hand-carved. The preserved crystal crown acts like a crystalline hairstyle, transferred directly from the raw stone into the sculpture.

What gives this skull its unique character is the preserved natural quartz crystal crown. Where the rock crystal points had grown on the raw stone, the carver decided not to remove them but to retain them as a hairstyle.

The sculpture shows iron oxide veins typical of Brazilian raw rock crystal along the seam between the crystal crown and the smoothly polished forehead. These rust-colored accents are not a material defect. They document the mineralization process in the original geode, where iron-containing water penetrated the cleavage walls over long periods.
