Rock crystal (SiO₂) is the purest variety of quartz. Such inclusion pieces are formed when, during the growth phase of the main column, a second crystal crystallized in the same cavity solution and was completely enclosed by the expanding quartz volume.

The slender shape of the main column and the inclusion make the piece a collector-relevant educational object. Mineralogists classify such constellations as growth inclusions; they are an indicator of complex solution conditions during crystallization.
