Citrine is the iron-bearing yellow quartz variety and crystallizes from silica-rich solutions in volcanic geodes of the Serra Geral Basalt Formation. The calcite grew as a second mineralization phase on the already formed citrine points, documenting a later generation of solutions.

Such multi-component geodes are a paleogeologically readable constellation. Each mineral zone corresponds to its own geochemical phase in the geode's growth.
