Special amethyst geode with a rose quartz cave

A special amethyst geode from Uruguay, in which a small cave of rose quartz opens in its violet inner wall. An extraordinary two-mineral constellation: two color-contrasting quartz varieties in a single geode.

Amethyst and rose quartz are both quartz varieties and differ only in the trace elements that create their coloration: amethyst by iron + radiation, rose quartz by manganese/titanium traces. That both crystallized in the same geode is a rare deposit constellation.

The sequence of mineralization is readable on the stone: first, the amethyst crystallized from the primary cavity solution. Then, a micro-cavity opened within the wall, in which a second, differently-elemented solution allowed the rose quartz to grow.

Uruguayan material from the Artigas Basin provides intensely colored, premium quality amethyst. The rose quartz cave as a secondary variety is a collector's sensation because it combines two quartz varieties in one geological piece.
