Great pair of amethyst geodes from Uruguay

A monumental amethyst geode pair from Uruguay, weighing a total of 94 kg and measuring 163 cm in height. Both halves of the original geode are preserved and can be displayed side-by-side or opposite each other, showcasing a mirrored symmetry of the grown inner walls.

Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, colored by iron trace elements and natural radiation exposure. Uruguayan material from the Artigas Basin is among the premium sources worldwide, known for its particularly compact dark purple coloration.

Geode pairs are formed when a geode is split exactly along its original axis of symmetry during recovery. Both halves then show the same growth geometry as mirror images; every point in one half has its counterpart in the other.

Recovery takes place in the basalt flows of the Serra Geral Formation, often several meters underground. Pairs that allow for intact mirror-image display are rare because splitting is difficult to control during mining operations.
