Perfect dreamlike beautiful large amethyst geode pair from Uruguay with many special features

A monumental pair of amethyst geodes from Uruguay, of museum-gallery dimensions. The original geode was split exactly along its axis of symmetry during extraction. Both halves have retained their complete internal lining.

Uruguayan material from the Artigas Basin is considered among the premium deposits worldwide. The compact dark violet coloration is typical of the deposit and clearly distinguishes it from the lighter Brazilian variety. Trace elements of iron and prolonged radiation exposure create the intense hue.

Extracting geode pairs of this magnitude requires several days of mining work. The geodes lie deep within the basalt layers of the Serra Geral Formation. Their splitting into two usable halves is uncontrollable and succeeds in only a fraction of extraction attempts.

Both halves show several growth generations: central amethyst lining, with calcite accents in between, and agate bands on the outer edge. A geological stratigraphy in a single exhibit.
