Tall amethyst geode with a pointed shape and dark crystals

A slender, tall amethyst geode from Uruguay, featuring particularly dark crystal coloration. Its pointed, 49 cm height makes it a stela-like collector's item, suitable for upright display in a cabinet.

Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz. Its deep color is caused by trace iron elements and natural radiation exposure over long periods. Uruguay traditionally provides the most intense blue-violet tones, a hallmark of the deposits in Artigas.

The tapering, pointed shape formed in the original lava geode due to a narrower cavity profile. The crystals grew from the inner edge of the geode towards the central axis until the cavity was closed. The inner exposure form visible today follows this growth geometry.

Uruguayan amethysts from the volcanic geodes of the Artigas basin are considered the most intensely colored worldwide. Compared to Brazilian material, they exhibit a more compact, darker blueness.
