Breathtaking rock crystal twin crystal with enclosed citrine crystals

A massive twin rock crystal from Zambia, with citrine crystals visible as inclusions within its clear quartz volume. Its height of 82 cm makes this specimen an architectural collector's item.

Rock crystal and citrine are both varieties of quartz and differ only in their trace element configuration: citrine contains traces of iron as a coloring element, while rock crystal is the uncolored pure form. The inclusion of both in one aggregate is a geological sensation.

Twins form when two crystal individuals grow together according to crystallographic laws. The citrine inclusions grew during the early crystallization phase, and the surrounding twin rock crystal later formed around them, enclosing them within its clear volume.

Zambian deposits from the Karoo Basin supply such multi-component quartzes of premium quality. A specimen size of 82 cm is of museum dimensions in the collector's trade.
