Beautiful Large Celestine

A large celestine solitaire from Madagascar in deep sky blue, with clear crystal terminations across the entire geode interior.

Celestine is strontium sulfate (SrSO₄). The light blue color is caused by trace radiation defects in the crystal lattice and is a rare, almost textbook color in the mineral kingdom.

The main occurrences are in Madagascar (Mahajanga region) and Sicily. Madagascar material is known for its strong, uniform blue coloration.

Celestine is soft with a Mohs hardness of 3-3.5 and should be protected from mechanical stress. The coloration can fade with prolonged UV exposure.
